UPDATE!!!!
High Occupancy Vehicle has returned!!
It all started with an A/V class in high school in 1994. We had a class that required students to go inside of a room full of equipment to play records, tapes and to talk on the mic as if we were on a radio station. There were two lunch shifts. When I was in the "Radio-Room" all of the students in an area called "the mall" could listen to the show on speakers that were installed on the walls. It was another lunchroom area. I really enjoyed the fact that I could manipulate the sounds on a record and I tried to scratch and mix spoken words tracks over cool tunes.
The teacher decided to cancel the course after that year due to lack of other students interest, so she offered the equipment up for a sealed auction. I won. I brought all of the gear to my house and got my first job at a restaurant to pay for it.........That's how it got started............
After playing around for a few weeks, I met up with an old friend Mark. He had the big idea of DJ’ing at bars and clubs. So, we started to learn the art of mixing. He was waiting for me everyday when I got home from high school. We learned the basics and started spinning at a local bar on Friday nights. 1995. We played older freestyle breakbeat early and progressed into the 140+ bpm type stuff later. It was a good place to get experience. That gig went on for a year. Marks style was different from mine. He liked to play the more vocal side and I liked the vocoded style. Our styles complemented each other great for that place. We started playing at club NEO's in Baton Rouge and not long after that our different styles separated us.
I went underground & started making a name for myself playing in the second rooms at raves and after hours clubs. I got into a band (ZOC) around 1997. I layed off the DJ gigs to focus on this new adventure. My role was singer/DJ. This was cool because I would sing then do a solo on the tables and sampler. It was pretty cool back then. We had the drums of Sepultura, guitar of Sonic Youth, Bass of Chili Peppers and vocals of Rage Against the Machine. I had fun. The band lasted about a year or so. After that chapter was over, DJ’ing and writing became a priority in my life. By this time I had a slight grasp on writing. I had an old used up MPC2000 from Guitar Center that I really liked and I had been working with ONE(Path Generator) for a few years by then as well. We were using Cubase with 32 live keyboards in a museum of hardware synths at his place. Fun times again. I was really playing out a lot and DJ’ing again between 1998-2003ish.
Things cooled off around 2003. When I found out I was going to be a father, I pretty much let music take a back seat for a while. Now that my son is turning out to be a fine young man I have a chance to jump back into the high occupancy vehicle of music and DJ culture. My journey is far from its end. My style and musical creativity have been evolving and growing all the while. I welcome you to experience a musical adventure into DnB, my way!
Recently finished up an album with Path Generator released on TDM records called "Change The World" available on iTunes, Amazon, and Beatport. Make sure you support your local musicians. We are working on music any chance we get. Stay tuned for more of what we call "Dreamstep!"
